Man arrested for allegedly committing non-physical assault on minor in Tampin

TAMPIN: Police have detained an unemployed man in his early 20s for allegedly committing non-physical sexual assault against an eight-year-old girl at a homestay here.

District police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the girl's mother lodged a report on Wednesday (May 1) following the alleged incident.

"The alleged assault took place on April 27 when the accused took the girl with him to the homestay to apparently collect some stuff," he said in a statement.

Supt Amiruddien said following the incident, the girl started keeping to herself.

He said a teacher realised the sudden change in the victim's behaviour and conveyed it to the victim’s mother.

"The girl's mother then lodged a report, and we detained the suspect three hours later.

"We have also obtained a court order to remand the suspect for three days to assist in investigations," he said.

The case, he said, is being probed under Section 15(a)(ii) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
