KLANG: The Sessions Court here has fixed Nov 26 for case mention in the matter of a volunteer and a housewife facing animal cruelty charges over the death of a dog named Rocky in July.
Judge Siti Nur Shafrida Hashim set the date after Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) prosecuting officer Mohd Sharif Sabran requested a new date to submit additional case documents to the defence lawyers representing Muhammad Shah Idham Nor Haikal Shaharom, 24, and S. Roghini Devi, 42.
The documents include a report from CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM).

On Aug 20, Shah Idham pleaded not guilty to a charge of unreasonably causing unnecessary pain or suffering to a male dog by dragging the animal with a snare loop.
On the same date, Roghini DEvi also claimed trial to a charge of unreasonably dragging the same dog, causing pain to the animal.
The offences were allegedly committed in front of a house at Jalan Sama Gagah 20, Taman Telok Gedung Indah, Port Klang, between 11pm and 11.30pm on July 29.
The charges were framed under Section 29(1)(e) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, punishable under Section 29(1), which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, at the Magistrate's Court, Magistrate A. Karthiyayini also fixed Nov 26 for mention of Roghini Devi’s case involving a separate charge of keeping a dog aged over three months without a valid licence from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK).
The offence was allegedly committed at the same location and time.
The charge was framed under Section 3 of the Dog Licensing and Dog Breeding Establishment (Klang Municipal Council) By-Laws 2007, which provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama
