PETALING JAYA: Most schools in five states and the Federal Territories will close on Friday (Oct 9), says Fadhlina Sidek.

In a statement on Thursday (Oct 8), the Education Minister said all schools in four states, namely Johor, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Selangor as well as the Federal Territories of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, would close. In Pahang, only schools in the Rompin district are affected.

"I have instructed all state Education Departments and district Education Offices to continue monitoring the haze situation and to take immediate action should conditions require it.

"I also understand that any decision to close schools impacts the daily routines of parents.

"Moving forward, we will ensure that any decision regarding school closures is announced in advance so that parents have sufficient time to make preparations" she said.
