KKB by-election: Spirit of unity govt must be protected, says Zambry

PETALING JAYA: The unity government was built on the spirit of understanding and teamwork among its parties and that spirit must be protected, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic).

"This includes the context of how we can strengthen that spirit by not releasing statements that could worsen relations.

"Before releasing any statement, it is imperative that we take into consideration the relationship and understanding that we have built together in this government called the unity government," the Barisan Nasional secretary-general said in a video statement on Monday (April 22).

He added that candidates for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-elections would be chosen based on that understanding between the parties of the unity government, be it from Barisan, Pakatan Harapan or others.

He also said that issues should be solved "as a collective" and with internal discussions amongst the involved parties.

"The Barisan Nasional chairman has given his commitment in supporting the candidate that would be announced by the unity government. This will also bring a new dimension, including bringing forth political stability and moderation for the country.

"We will continue this mission and ensure it will be enacted and understood by the voters at the Kuala Kubu Baharu voters," he said.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat fell vacant following the death of its DAP incumbent Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.
