Ministry to allocate RM267mil for Bomba to procure equipment


IPOH: The Housing and Local Government Ministry will be allocating RM267mil to the Fire and Rescue Department for the purpose of procurement and purchasing equipment, says Nga Kor Ming.

The Minister said this was the highest allocation provided to the department so far till today.

Nga said this was in recognition of the contributions of the firefighters, who are among the heroes of the nation, and in conjunction with International Firefighters Day.

“From the total, RM141mil will be used to purchase 150 advanced compact fire-fighting engines.

“Firefighters are really important, not only do they put out fires, but if there is a snake in the house, they are there to catch it, or if there is a beehive, they are there to destroy it, and most recently, in Melaka, they even caught a crocodile.

“They (firefighters) are everywhere, and to recognise their contributions and efforts, the ministry has managed to obtained funds that will be channelled to the department,” he said in his speech at a Hari Raya dinner event with the media in Perak held at Warung Theater @ Cathay by Nifayyi on Saturday (April 20) night.

Nga also said that the national-level firefighters day would take place in Tambun on May 4 with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiating at the event.

“The event, to be held from 9am at the Lost World of Tambun, will see water bombs, helicopter shows, and python-handling with our ‘abang sado’ flexing their muscles,” he added.

Nga also said sometime this year, the Prime Minister would also launch the first Madani recreational park in Tambun,

He said the ministry is aiming to build 100 Madani recreational parks, with Perak to have 22 such parks.

“The Ministry will allocate RM50mil for the purpose, and on May 4, the Prime Minister will hand over RM10mil for the establishment of such parks in Perak.

“So, everything starts in Tambun (referring to the PM being the MP there),” he added.

During the event, Nga also allocated RM20,000 to the Perak Media Practitioners Club.

“The media has been kind and generous in helping us, and as in recognition and appreciation, the amount is presented to the club for their activities,” he added.
