Johor Bomba targets reducing national average response time for fire rescue operations

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Fire and Rescue Department is targeting to reduce their National Average Response Time (NART) to nine minutes and thirty seconds per case starting this year.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department director Siti Rohani Nadir said that last year, the department's overall response time was 57%, compared to the NART target of 63%.

“The NART target set by the headquarters is nine minutes and forty-two seconds; last year our general response time was nine minutes and eighty seconds.

“So this year we are trying to improve our NART to nine minutes and thirty seconds. Our priority is for all rescue calls involving fire and rescue operations except for catching reptiles such as snakes and the removal of poisonous insects,” she said.

She said this when met by reporters after the Johor Fire and Rescue Department yearly assembly at the department headquarters in Kangkar Tebrau here on Tuesday (Feb 6).

Rohani added that the response time is set within 25km of each fire station in the state.

However, she explained that the response time can only be improved with constant maintenance and care of departmental assets and equipment.

“Last year, we managed to conduct 1,402 repair works on our assets and equipment, with a cost amounting to RM3.4mil.

“This year we have also received an allocation to conduct similar operations to ensure that these machines are operational and serviceable,” she added.
