1,072 nabbed for various drug offences


KOTA BARU: Police arrested 1,072 individuals, including four civil servants, for various drug offences in a 16-day integrated border operations in the state.

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun (pic) said all those apprehended were aged between 17 and 59, comprising 1,051 men and 21 women.

He said the integrated operations were aimed at curbing the smuggling and abuse of drugs from a neighbouring country.

Comm Muhamad Zaki said the focus of the operation was to identify target areas that are active pot areas or drug dens for such activities.

“The suspects are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 and the Poisons Act 1952,” he said, Bernama reported.

The operations saw the seizure of various types of drugs, estimated to be worth RM242,193.
