GEORGE TOWN: About 250 Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) members are on 24-hour standby to help in emergencies during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
They will be on call until April 13 to provide rescue and aid in conjunction with the ongoing Ops Selamat.
Penang deputy chairman Datuk Loh Nam Hooi said MRCS has the support of the police, Fire and Rescue Department, and hospitals.“There will be four service centres – one on the island, and the others in the three districts on the mainland,” he said.
Penang health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, who launched the initiative, thanked MRCS and applauded it for being the first line of rescue during emergencies.
“It has set up a 24-hour operation centre under a hotspot project in Batu Maung.
“Since 2022, it has responded to almost 5,000 cases.
“In the event of emergencies, it is crucial for rescuers to arrive at the location, and MRCS members who are trained to provide on-scene life support, play a vital role in reaching out to victims within the shortest period,” he said.
Gooi also urged all motorists to practise safe and considerate driving to ensure safety.
At the event, seven ambulances were flagged off in a convoy from The Granite Luxury Hotel in Jalan Magazine here.
Also present were M Summit Group founder and managing director Datuk Albert Moh and the hotel’s general manager Moh Wei Ken.
