CHUKAI: Three people in two cars sustained minor injuries in a crash after one of the vehicles hit an elephant at KM160 of the Jerangau-Jabor road near the Jabor Plantation here on Monday (Sept 14) night.
Kemaman OCPD Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the incident occurred at 7.58pm when a sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by Amirul Afiq Aazmi, 29, with his wife Farhain Jolius, 23, as a passenger, was travelling from Jerangau towards Jabor.
"An elephant crossed the road. The driver was unable to brake ... and collided with it," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 15).
He said a car driven by Wan Muhammad Faiz Fakhrullah Wan Muhammad Zainal, 31, then crashed into the rear of the SUV.
Amirul Afiq sustained a minor hand injury, while Farhain suffered minor injuries to her leg and chest and Wan Muhammad Faiz Fakhrullah had a minor knee injury, he added.
"All the victims were treated in the Green Zone at Hospital Kemaman," he said.
Supt Razi said police have obtained dashcam footage of the incident to help with investigations under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1980. – Bernama
