Task force set up to address curriculum issues raised by teachers, Dewan Rakyat hears

KUALA LUMPUR: A special curriculum intervention task force has been established to address issues raised by teachers about the current curriculum, says Wong Kah Woh (PH-Taiping).

The Deputy Education Minister said the task force is responsible for several matters, such as providing the KSSR (Primary School Standard Curriculum) Alignment Document (Revision 2017) Edition 3.0, which will be used starting from the 2024/25 academic session.

"Secondly, the task force will also implement early literacy and numeracy screening for Year One students after three months of schooling.

"Thirdly, it will produce parent-friendly PBD (classroom assessment) reports, and provide teacher training for the KSSR Alignment Document (Revision 2017) Edition 3.0 as well as classroom assessment," he said in reply to Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) during Ministers' Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (March 18).

Hassan had asked the Education Ministry to state its plan to conduct research and control over the syllabus of subjects that disrupt academic schedules, thus affecting teachers' planning for learning and teaching.

Wong said the ministry has developed support materials to assist teachers in implementing the curriculum effectively.

"These materials are developed as reference and guidance for teachers to enhance students' abilities in the subjects they are studying.

"The latest guidance module (Modul Bimbingan – Mobim) for the subjects of Science, Mathematics and language has been developed.

"It is used as an initiative to help teachers understand the curriculum and implement teaching and learning more effectively," he said.

Wong noted that the guidance module for Year One had been distributed last year, while for Year Two, Year Three and Level Two it will be distributed in stages starting in May for the benefit of all teachers.

He said the ministry has also taken steps to implement several strategies to enhance teaching and learning.

"A repository platform called SumberKU can be accessed through the DELIMa platform," he said, referring to the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia platform.

To a question by Howard Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timur), Wong said KSSR revision is done after the completion of each cycle of 10 years and the ministry is working on the curriculum for 2027.

"We are engaging with all stakeholders and it contains seven focuses, namely self-development, communication, responsibility, digital savvy, multiliteracy, thinking ability and lifelong learning.

"In summary, the curriculum will be competency-oriented compared with the previous version," he said.
