KOTA KINABALU: A 60-year-old woman and a four-year-old girl were found burnt to death following a fire at a house in Ranau late Thursday (Feb 1).

The Fire and Rescue Department discovered the charred remains of the two victims in a room at the house located at Kampung Matan there.

The department earlier received a report at 10.53pm and a team was sent to the location, where the fire had completely destroyed the structure.

“The fire was under control at 11.45pm and the operation ended at 12.30am on Friday (Feb 2).

“The bodies were handed over to the police for further action,” said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman.

Meanwhile, in a separate case in Kota Belud on the same night, the Fire and Rescue Department was called in by the district hospital after a man came into the emergency unit with an arrow-like metal rod in his right forearm.

According to a report that came in at 11.59pm, the 25-year-old victim was out fishing when the accident happened.

“The team cut off and removed the object before handing the victim over to the hospital staff for further action.

“The operation ended at 12.33am Friday,” added the spokesman.
