BUTTERWORTH: Water supply is back to normal for about 350,000 or 60% of affected consumers in the state just over 30 hours from the start of the scheduled disruption.

"The two major valve replacements at the Sungai Dua water treatment plant are complete," Deputy Energy Transition and Public Utilities Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir told a press conference at the plant on Thursday (Jan 11).

Akmal Nasrullah said only one repair job at Sungai Prai is still ongoing out of the 22 tasks scheduled for the duration of the water cut.

He added the work at Sungai Prai is at 50% completion and was confident that the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) will be able to resolve it.

He also praised PBAPP for restoring water supply to several areas in the state earlier than planned and for completing the works ahead of schedule.

Akmal Nasrullah visited the plant to check the status of the valve replacements and was briefed by PBAPP chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan at the site.

Also with him was National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman Charles Santiago.
