Para swimming body to organise six circuits in 2024 to uncover new talent

JOHOR BARU: Six swimming circuits will be organised by the Malaysian Para Swimming Association (Prepma) next year as part of its plans to find and nurture new talent.

Paralympic Council Malaysia (PCM) president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin said the programme was introduced this year to better organise each state's para swimming associations.

"We wanted each state association to be able to organise and find funding for their programmes and not wait for the national circuit.

"This is in line with the Sports Development Cabinet Committee led by Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, whose wish is to see more grassroots development, particularly in swimming and athletics," he said after officiating the second circuit of the 2023 National Para Swimming Championship at the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) Aquatic Centre Arena Larkin here on Monday (Dec 11).

Megat added that the programme is important as it could discover a new generation of talent to replace elite athletes who are retiring.
