PETALING JAYA: A delegation of senior officials from the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) visited Menara Star to find out more about the Star Media Group (SMG).

The team was led by NCCIM president Tan Sri Soh Thian Lai, vice-president Datuk Seri N. Gobalakrishnan and secretary-general Michael Chai. Among the others were NCCIM council members S. Gnanasambanthan and Datuk Koong Lin Loong.

They were greeted on arrival yesterday by SMG chief content officer Esther Ng, SMG chief business officer Lydia Wang and other senior executives. The visit began with a tour of the Star Gallery, where the delegation learned about the history of the media group.

They were also given an insight into some of the impactful events and stories published by the group over the decades before being taken to the newsroom, where they were briefed on the group’s digital and print products and multi-platform operations.

The visitors later held discussions with SMG group chief executive officer Alex Yeow.

Soh described the visit as beneficial to NCCIM and said it played an important role in building solid ties between both parties.

“I believe SMG’s long involvement and expertise in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda can go hand in hand in helping NCCIM push for further adoption among our members as we strive to achieve our goal of reaching net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” he added.

Formed originally in 1962, NCCIM is the country’s apex trade organisation and a federation of five major national trade organisations – the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM), the Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI), the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).
