KUCHING: Department heads in Sarawak must give full support to Certified Integrity Officers (CeIOs) to safeguard good governance and accountability across the civil service, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
Speaking at the Sarawak Integrity Day launch on Wednesday (Aug 12), Abang Johari emphasised that CeIOs play a vital role in improving compliance, risk management, and ethical culture within public sector organisations.
"As such, department heads should support CeIOs in carrying out their duties professionally and effectively," he said
He added that an administration with integrity must view public feedback and criticism as opportunities to address systemic weaknesses.
He also highlighted the Sarawak Ombudsman, established in 2024, as a key independent institution created to investigate public grievances and combat maladministration.
State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki noted that Sarawak currently has 208 MACC-trained CeIOs assigned to identify operational risks and reinforce internal controls across state agencies.
