5G: No inking of agreement between DNB, telcos this month, says Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The inking of an agreement between mobile network operators (MNOs) and Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) will not occur this month as previously anticipated, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications and Digital Minister said this was because there were still some matters to be ironed out before a deal could be finalised.

"I held a meeting with the 5G Task Force this afternoon (Oct 26), and we discussed a few matters which will be conveyed to the MNOs.

"We hope the details can be resolved and we can move expeditiously to signing the share subscription agreement. (SSA)," he said at a press conference after launching DNB's "My5G Portal" on Thursday (Oct 26).

He said that the 5G Task Force review was completed, but there were technical matters that the MNOs had to analyse before reverting their response.

Asked when the SSA will likely be concluded, Fahmi said that he hoped it would be done by the end of this year.

Earlier this month, Fahmi said the SSA was expected to be signed by the middle of October.

On a separate matter, Fahmi said discussions were also ongoing with the MNOs on pricing the 5G services.

He was responding on whether current 4G users would have to bear additional costs for migrating to 5G services.

Besides the portal, Fahmi also launched DNB's 5G Experience Centre in the TRX Exchange 106.
