KUALA LUMPUR: Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide indoor 5G connectivity at the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQC) in Johor Bahru.
In a joint statement, the companies said the collaboration would enable 5G coverage throughout the complex, supporting digital services such as ticketing, navigation, communications and mobile transactions.
The MoU was exchanged by DNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail and MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim during Transport Expo Asia 2026.
Azman said the partnership would support the integration of 5G connectivity into public transport infrastructure.
"Together with MRT Corp and our mobile network operator shareholders, we look forward to delivering a better commuter experience while creating a model for broader indoor 5G adoption across transport hubs, commercial developments and public venues nationwide," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Zarif said the collaboration was part of preparations for passenger operations at the RTS Link, which connects Johor Bahru and Singapore.
He said reliable digital connectivity would allow passengers to remain connected as they move through the station and immigration facilities.
MRT Corp, through its subsidiary Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS), is responsible for developing and owning the Malaysian infrastructure for the RTS Link, including the in-building telecommunications facilities at Bukit Chagar ICQC.
As a licensed network facilities provider, MRT Corp plans to generate non-fare revenue by leasing telecommunications infrastructure and space to mobile network operators.
The companies said the partnership would also provide a framework for future indoor 5G deployments at other high-traffic locations.
