KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan aim for the Melaka polls is to retain existing seats and there are several factors that could swing additional seats in the coalition's way, says Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
The Pakatan communications director said the matter was among those discussed at its presidential council meeting on Tuesday (Oct 27) evening to fine-tune preparations for the coalition's election machinery.
"Our baseline is the seats we want to retain. At the same time, we are looking for opportunities to wrest several seats. If our efforts and strategies are properly executed, it is not impossible for us to bring about a change.
"We have our targets, but we are realistic and understand the situation.
"Nevertheless, we see several factors that could enable the seats we are targeting to swing to Pakatan Harapan," he told reporters after the presentation of the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency Deepavali contributions here on Tuesday night.
On preparations by the election machinery, Fahmi said the presidential council had been briefed by Melaka Pakatan chairman Adly Zahari and Melaka PKR leadership council acting chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim on its readiness.
"As for the candidates announced recently, I can see that they are continuing their groundwork and we believe that by the nomination day on Oct 31, Pakatan candidates will be ready to face those contesting in the Melaka state election," he said.
Apart from the Melaka polls, he said the meeting was also briefed on the dissolution of the Sarawak State Assembly and several initiatives for the implementation of government reforms.
Meanwhile, on facilities for media personnel covering the Melaka state polls, Fahmi said a main media centre operated by the Information Department would begin operations from Oct 30 to Nov 14 at Hotel Mudzaffar, Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Ayer Keroh. – Bernama
