Teenager beaten up by gang in Kepala Batas, 24 arrested

KEPALA BATAS: Twenty-four people have been arrested by the police after a teenager was beaten up at a petrol station in Bagan Ajam here.

North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Asri Shafie the suspects aged 16 to 24 were detained for their alleged involvement in the incident on Thursday (Oct 19), a video of which went viral on social media.

"One of the suspects arrested has a record of two crimes," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 20).

ACP Mohd Asri said initial investigations found that the incident started when the victim provoked the group by revving his motorcycle engine during a religious procession.

ACP Mohd Asri said the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code.

He said the incident can disrupt and cause disturbance to the public peace.

"Any individuals with further information regarding this incident can contact the nearest police station or directly get in touch with the investigating officer Inspector Mohd Nazri Wan Chik at 014-319 0131," he said.
