Editor of book who allegedly insulted country's coat of arms released from remand

KUALA LUMPUR: The editor of a book that allegedly insulted Malaysia's coat of arms has been released, says Federal CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

He said that the 58-year-old Kean Wong was released after the remand order expired on Tuesday (Oct 17).

"The suspect is believed to have been staying in Sydney, Australia. He was arrested at the Immigration office at Kelana Jaya when renewing his passport on Monday," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said investigations were being conducted by the Bukit Aman CID special investigations unit (D5) under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 8(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"We urge the public to refrain from speculating as it could disrupt the investigation process," he said.
