KUALA LUMPUR: A homeowner managed to track down and apprehend a suspect who broke into his house here.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that the house on Jalan Teratai 1/11 was broken into on Saturday (Oct 14).

The complainant, a 33-year-old engineer, was awoken from sleep at around 5am and spotted an unknown person in the house

He said the suspect, who ran away immediately, entered the house by breaking the kitchen door lock.

"Several items were missing with losses estimated at around RM25,000," he said.

At around 11.50am the same day, the police was informed by the complainant that her husband had successfully apprehended the suspect in Hulu Langat with the help of others.

"He was brought to Taman Melur, Ampang and at noon police arrived to arrest the 24-year-old suspect," he said.

The stolen items were also recovered, including some jewellery, a laptop and a handphone.

"The suspect had no prior criminal record and tested positive for methamphetamine.

"Investigations showed that the suspect would target houses in areas without security guards," he said, adding that the suspect had been remanded for seven days from Oct 15 to 21.
