Just taking a break: Nik Abduh denies PAS snub

MUAR: Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz denies claims that he has been snubbed by his own party, PAS.

The son of the late PAS spiritual leader Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said he was merely taking a break from politics.

"It was not that I was snubbed by the party but I was the one who asked to take a step back from politics.

"PAS has asked me to come back but I requested for more time. There is no issue of me being snubbed," he said after attending a press conference to unveil the manifesto of Perikatan Nasional's Simpang Jeram candidate Dr Mohd Mazri.

On July 31, the former Bachok MP announced that he would step down from politics temporarily.

"I will be fasting and resting from our country's politics for a while. This will be the hardest period for me and my mother.

"May PAS grow stronger with the best leadership to drive the country's future," the former PAS Youth chief said in a Facebook post before the recent Kelantan elections.

PAS had surprisingly not named Nik Mohamad as candidate for the state polls.

It sparked speculation that this was to suppress the legacy of Nik Mohamad's late father, who was former Kelantan mentri besar and still held in high regard by many.

On a separate matter, Nik Mohamad also thanked his party for his recent appointment as a Senator representing Kelantan.

"I am thankful for the appointment and will do my best to carry out the duties given to me," he said, adding that with the appointment, he was now back in politics.

His nomination was proposed by Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassurudin Daud in the Kelantan state assembly and seconded by his deputy Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan.

Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah then put the proposal to a vote, with the majority of those present agreeing to it.

Nik Abduh will replace Mohamad Affandi Mohamad, whose term as senator ended on July 7.
