JELI: PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that Perikatan Nasional can take over the Federal Government should the coalition win in the six state polls has no basis, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Abdul Hadi, said the Deputy Prime Minister, should understand the basic concept of federal and state administrations.
Ahmad Zahid pointed out that the unity government currently has 148 parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat while the six state polls would only make a difference for the respective states.
“How will they (Perikatan) take over Putrajaya? We have 148 seats and even if they win, it will be at the state level, which means they have no right to take over (Putrajaya).
“This is not about a referendum. This is about state elections, not general election, and so it has nothing to do with the Federal Government,” he told reporters after launching the Desa Cerdas Kemas programme in Ayer Lanas here yesterday.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman and Bagan Datuk MP, said Abdul Hadi’s claim has no basis.
On Sunday, Abdul Hadi had claimed that Perikatan’s victory in the Aug 12 state elections would pave the way for the coalition to take over the Federal Government
Earlier, in his speech, Ahmad Zahid said the unity government has never denied the rights of Kelantan.
He said everything that the unity government had said was not empty talk or empty promises, adding that the impact and implementation of the programmes had already been carried out with the benefits being enjoyed by the people.
“Everyone can witness the government’s commitment and efforts to assist the people to its best ability, including those in the rural areas and interior, despite the very challenging economic situation.
“I wish to urge everyone to see for themselves and think rationally about the ability and capability of the unity government,” he said in his speech at the Desa Cerdas Kemas programme.
