Father and son killed in three-vehicle pileup on NSE

NILAI: A 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son were killed in an accident involving three vehicles along KM276.9 of the North South Expressway near here.

Nilai district police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said the man's 27-year-old wife and a five-year-old child suffered serious injuries in the accident, which happened around 11.30pm on Saturday (Aug 5).

"The family is believed to have been travelling from Kajang to Melaka when the accident happened," said Supt Abdul Malik.

"The preliminary probe shows that one of their vehicle's tyres exploded, causing the driver to lose control of the car," he said in a statement.

Supt Abdul Malik said the car then crashed into the guardrail on the right side of the south-bound lane.

He said a car travelling on the fast lane then crashed into the victim's vehicle and another car on the second lane.

"The driver was killed on the spot and his son died while receiving treatment at the hospital," he said.

The driver and one of the passengers travelling in the two other cars suffered light injuries and were sent to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban and Kajang Hospital for treatment.

Supt Abdul Malik said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged eyewitnesses to contact Insp Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-461 1794 to assist in the probe.
