RM50mil allocated to expand Rahmah initiative, Salahuddin’s brainchild, says PM

PETALING JAYA: Putrajaya has allocated RM50mil to expand the Rahmah initiative in the country, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said the decision to expand the programme, which was the brainchild of the late former Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, was due to its success.

"We are expanding this programme to cover all sub-districts nationwide. It will surely cost more, and I will ensure that the implementation will be expedited.

"For that, we approved an additional allocation of RM50mil," said Anwar during a Rahmah event at Bukit Jalil Pavilion on Sunday (July 30) evening.

"If there are not enough funds, I will hold discussions and the Finance Ministry will seek additional funds," added Anwar.

The Prime Minister, who is also Finance Minister, paid tribute to Salahuddin, who passed away on July 23.

"I told Salahuddin that I was touched by the success of this initiative and I told him that we should have an appreciation event for vendors who participated," added Anwar.
