EATERIES offering RM5 meals are encouraged to register for the Menu Rahmah initiative to reap its benefits.
Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the ministry appreciated businesses that provided affordable meals out of compassion amid rising living costs.
She added that the initiative aimed to help ease some of their burden while supporting the community.
“We welcome businesses to join the initiative, especially if they are offering food at rahmah prices.
“By officially registering for the Menu Rahmah effort, they can receive a special discount card which allows them to buy certain goods at discounted prices at selected supermarkets.
“This may help reduce some of the extra costs they have to shoulder if they continue to offer RM5 meals to the public,” Lilis Saslinda said when contacted.
She added that there were currently 59 eateries registered under the Menu Rahmah initiative statewide.
“Following a data update exercise, KPDN found that there are 59 active premises under the initiative, and we encourage more to join.
“Menu Rahmah is an initiative that allows businesses to sincerely provide affordable meals to the public, a deed that is even more appreciated now as many struggle to cope with rising costs.
“It is not something that can be forced and has to come from the heart.”
The Menu Rahmah initiative was launched by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, a former KPDN minister, in January 2023.
In this effort, participating eateries serve a balanced meal set for only RM5.
Meanwhile, the special Menu Rahmah discount card, which offers discounts of up to 40% at selected supermarkets, was introduced in November 2023.
