KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) has strengthened its flood preparedness in eight flood-prone zones to face the high tide phenomenon expected from Nov 7 to 11.
Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain (pic) said that among the measures were ensuring effective drainage networks, installing flap gates and increased monitoring in flood-risk areas.
“All relevant departments must always be on standby and ensure that every complaint received is given attention and that appropriate action is taken, especially during uncertain weather conditions.
“People living in low-lying areas, near rivers or flood-risk locations are advised to make early preparations to face possible water overflow,” he said.
According to Abd Hamid, the floods coordination meeting with Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim had previously identified eight locations that required special attention through the implementation of mitigation measures.

“Areas involved are the Bukit Raja Intersection, Taman Mutiara Bukit Raja, Taman Melawis, Kampung Bukit Kapar, Taman Meru Indah, Taman Seri Kerayong, Taman Daya Maju and Jalan Haji Salleh, Meru,” he said.
He added that the actions being taken included upgrading the drainage network, repairing discharge pipes, maintaining on-site-detention ponds and ensuring that developers complied with drainage and erosion control plans.
“Our MBDK Skuad Pantas (Quick Response Team) received 83 disaster complaints on Nov 4 and 5, with 62 cases completed, 16 still being carried out while the other five involved special assistance," said Abd Hamid.
"The complaints involved incidents of fallen trees, flash floods, roofs blown off by the wind, fallen utility poles and landslides.
“The Skuad Pantas together with MBDK's Engineering, Landscape and Environmental Services departments will continue to strengthen preparedness to ensure immediate action can be taken if there is a disaster," he said.
He advised residents to keep eye on weather developments and official announcements from the authorities, as well as store important documents and valuables in a safe place.
"Residents are also advised to move vehicles to higher ground, avoid risky locations and prepare emergency supplies in the event of floods," he added.
Meanwhile, Abd Hamid said those whose vehicles or property were damaged by fallen trees under the supervision of MBDK could submit a claim for compensation to the relevant local authorities.
“Affected owners must first file a police report before submitting a claim together with relevant documents to MBDK for review and assessment according to the suggested procedures," he said.
He also called on the community to cooperate by reporting any emergency through official channels.
