State polls: Syed Saddiq to sell Muar otak-otak to raise funds for Muda

PETALING JAYA: With six states heading to the polls in the coming months, Muda is thinking out of the box to raise funds for its election campaign.

Party president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said its fully digital fundraising campaign would see leaders and the grassroots selling products or services such as counselling.

He said he would also do so, selling the Muar delicacy otak-otak online.

"We're the underdogs here and have to think outside the box.

"For this, we will be having fundraising activities by selling items in various social media marketplaces.

"To ensure it is not just a Syed Saddiq initiative, members at all levels will also be carrying out their own crowdfunding initiatives with the collections deposited into Muda's official bank accounts," he told a press conference on Tuesday (July 4).

He said Muda was aiming to contest less than 10% of the seats up for grabs in the coming state elections due soon for Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

"To contest all 245 seats is a Herculean task. Each seat also needs a deposit of about RM8,000 and this is not including other campaign infrastructure such as flags and buntings," he said.

A meeting would also be held together with Parti Sosialis Malaysia leaders later in the day to find areas of common interest, he added.

"I know their leaders well, and whose hearts are truly in service despite electoral losses," he said.

Separately, Syed Saddiq also questioned where was the fighting spirit current PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abd Halim had when he previously took to the streets to protest against corruption.

"Yet now, big-scale corruption cases are postponed indefinitely. On outdated Acts like the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 and others, where is his voice?

"What more the littoral combat ship scandal where billions have been set yet no vessels completed, which became a big part of their (GE15) campaign?

"Yet now, they are mute. Where are the promised reforms? The people want to know your stance," he said.

Syed Saddiq was asked by reporters on Adam Adli recently saying that the Muar MP should first answer the question of whether Muda wanted to be in the government or Opposition bloc.
