IPOH: After seven days of waiting for a public apology, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman will proceed to take legal action against new Pasir Salak Umno chief Khairul Azwan Harun.

When contacted, the former Pasir Salak MP said Khairul Azwan did not contact him to apologise.

"He didn’t contact me nor did he apologise to me. So I will proceed with the legal action.

"I will check with my lawyers first on the suit," he said on Monday (June 26), without elaborating.

On June 18, in a press conference at a hotel here, Tajuddin demanded that Khairul Azwan apologise publicly within seven days for saying the Umno supreme council should reject his (Tajuddin’s) appeal for reinstatement.

Last year, Tajuddin was removed from the Umno supreme council and was then suspended from the party for six years in October.

He was also dropped as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia on July 22.

Khairul Azwan, who is fondly known as "Azwan Bro", had on June 14 said the supreme council should reject Tajuddin’s appeal as he continued to tarnish the image of the party leadership.

During the division election in March, Khairul Azwan contested against Tajuddin’s eldest son Dr Faizal Tajuddin and won. Prior to that, Tajuddin had held the position for 19 years since 2004.

The Star has reached out to Khairul Azwan for comment.
