KOTA TINGGI: The meeting between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Khairy Jamaluddin merely proves the openness of the unity government, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

“Do not read too much into it,” said the Umno vice-president, while urging the people to not speculate on the meeting that was also attended by Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Ghani and the country’s top economic experts.

He said the government was showing its openness to meeting and accepting views from various quarters.

“This is why the Prime Minister invited Khairy to the meeting and I believe Khairy will use such an opportunity to give his views on how to fix and improve Malaysia’s economy,” he added.

The Higher Education Minister and Kota Tinggi MP said this to reporters after visiting Felda Bukit Easter here yesterday.

On his Facebook page last Friday, Anwar said he had attended a discussion to get ideas and views on the national economy, and Khairy appeared to be among the participants in the meeting, as seen in the picture he shared.

“The discussion touched on new growth areas and methods to strengthen the investment ecosystem.

“All the views shared will be used to form the Madani Economic Narrative being drafted to shape the direction of the country’s economy in the medium and long-term,” Anwar wrote.

Khairy, a former health minister and ex-Umno Youth chief who was sacked from the party earlier this year, is supposed to meet Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to give his decision on whether he would join the Perikatan Nasional pact.

On speculation that 10 Umno “warlords”, including three from the state, would be joining Perikatan, Khaled said he did not know about it.

“I only read about it in the newspapers. Hopefully, the issue will stay as rumours. In politics, our fortune will always change just like the tide where sometimes we are on top and sometimes we are at the bottom.

“We should live a life of principles. If things do not go our way, we should not jump to the other side,” he added.

On Monday, Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin claimed that some 10 Umno leaders would be joining the coalition soon.
