KJ says any party he forms will be on his terms

PETALING JAYA: Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is contemplating forming his own political party.

The former Umno Rembau Member of Parliament said that recent weeks had shown him that there was a possibility for him to start a new political party.

Khairy, who was sacked from Umno earlier this year, previously said starting a new political party would only saturate the political landscape.

"If we are given a second chance in politics, why not start (in politics) on our own terms," he was quoted as saying during his podcast, Keluar Sekejap, episode on Monday (June 5).

Sinar Harian reported that Khairy said joining a new party would require some adjustments for him such as to follow the new party’s principles that might not be aligned with his own.

Khairy then elaborated that he faced a similar situation when joining Umno.

"I have no regrets for choosing and joining Umno but I believe you must adjust yourselves," he said.

Khairy added that forming a political party had its own risks such as losing the deposit for election and being ridiculed if they lost badly.

"So if we form our own party, then we must be prepared to lose some elections, but who knows what will happen," he said.

Khairy recently had been offered a post in the Bersatu supreme council by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
