Fully engulfed: Firefighters trying to bring the blaze under control at the Sabah Golf and Country Club.
KOTA KINABALU: More than 60 golf buggies were destroyed in a midnight blaze at a popular country club here.
The losses were estimated to be a few million ringgit after the fire, which happened early yesterday, also destroyed a host of expensive golf sets belonging to members as well as almost an entire two-storey building housing the items at the Sabah Golf and Country Club in Jalan Kolam, Bukit Padang, here.
Lintas Fire and Rescue station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said they were alerted of the incident at 12.28am.
She said they were informed that a building used to keep the buggies was engulfed in fire.
When the fire team reached the scene, they found some 80% of the building had already been destroyed, she added,
“The team immediately got down to work to douse the fire the best they could,” she said yesterday.
They managed to get the fire under control at 1.15am.
“No one was hurt in the incident. We are still investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the actual losses from the fire,” added Guasi.
