Perikatan turns down Pejuang's application to join coalition


PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has rejected Pejuang's application to join the coalition.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin (pic) said the decision was made following its supreme council meeting on Monday (March 20).

"The meeting was chaired by Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and attended by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau, as well as representatives of member parties.

"The council made a decision to reject the application of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air party to be part of Perikatan Nasional.

"The supreme council also made a decision to maintain the use of the Perikatan symbol in the state elections of Kedah, Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan and use the PAS symbol in Kelantan and Terengganu," he said in a statement on Tuesday (March 21).

He said the supreme council also instructed the election machinery in the six states to strengthen preparation and readiness at the highest level.

"The supreme council also announced the appointment of Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor as its election director-general, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee as Sabah Perikatan liaison chairman, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin as Federal Territories Perikatan liaison chairman while Mohamad Siddiq Mohd Azani and Muhd Khidir Izaidin have been appointed as Perikatan Nasional assistant executive secretaries," he said.
