Drunk suspect nabbed for hitting two cops after car crash

IPOH: Police have arrested a 30-year-old man, believed to be intoxicated, for hitting two junior police officers near the Police Air Wing Unit Training Base here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the man had earlier crashed his car into a guardrail near the base at 12.05am on Friday (March 17).

"The two officers were inspecting the scene when the man hit them.

"Both officers sustained light injuries and received treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun," he said in a statement.

ACP Yahaya said the suspect was believed to be drunk at the time.

"The case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to stop civil servants from performing their duties and Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act for driving above the permitted alcohol level.

"A three-day remand order has been obtained from today until Sunday (March 19) to facilitate investigation," he said.

"We advise the people to be responsible road users and not drive under the influence of alcohol as it could not only cause harm to oneself but to others," he added.
