Zahid: I’m ready to be investigated

JOHOR BARU: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) says he is ready and open to be investigated anytime after the call by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to graft busters to probe him and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Ahmad Zahid instead told the Bersatu president and former prime minister, who was charged with four counts of abuse of power and two counts of money laundering last Friday, to face the music.

“I have been investigated and brought to court before.

“I am always open and ready anytime,” said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, at a press conference after introducing Umno polls candidates here yesterday.

He was asked to comment on Muhyiddin’s challenge earlier yesterday, which was thrown at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Anwar, who is PKR president, and his counterpart in Umno, on allegations of funds received from businessmen.

“Just face the music ... I wish him all the best,” Ahmad Zahid said in reaction to Muhyiddin’s comment.

Earlier, in his speech at the presentation, Ahmad Zahid said he did not practise favouritism when it came to the Umno polls.

“All the candidates are my friends. There is no favouritism to influence the delegates in casting their votes.

“I know the delegates will make informed decisions as they can differentiate between glass and gems,” he said, adding that he hoped the victors of the Umno elections could work well with him and his deputy as a team to make the party better.

He said this was crucial in taking on the six upcoming state elections as well.

The Umno elections are under way from Feb 1 to March 18, with the branch-level elections held from Feb 1 to 26, followed by the elections for the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings at the national level on March 11.

The Umno divisional delegates’ meetings and committee elections as well as contests for seats in the Umno supreme council will be held simultaneously nationwide on March 18.
