KOTA KINABALU: Choose leaders who are truly loyal to Umno’s struggles, says Sabah party chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Ahead of the Umno polls, he said delegates who choose their leadership at the party’s wings, division, or central levels, must decide if these leaders can represent the voice of the people.
“My advice is not to choose based on emotions, not due to friendship, but selecting leaders who can really voice the aspirations of the grassroots and the party.
“We need leaders who are not only brave in voicing out, but in upholding what is just and true.
“This is important in order for Umno to emerge with new efforts and new approaches, as the political landscape is different than 15 or 20 years ago,” he said in a statement on Friday (March 10).
He added that Umno needs leaders who are clear about the party’s goals, as it is not just about “mixing younger blood and senior personalities”.
“Our first struggle is to rid the country from issues hindering the economy and development, while realising the party’s struggles in ensuring its stability, with focus on Islam and unity, among others,” he added.
Bung Moktar will be defending his supreme council member position and had earlier retained the Kinabatangan Umno division chief post uncontested.
The wings’ delegates meeting and the party’s women, youth and puteri polls will be held simultaneously across the country on Saturday (March 11).
The delegates meeting and polls for the party’s division level and supreme council member posts will be held nationwide on March 18.
