Charges against Muhyiddin darken mood of Bersatu AGM, but it’s a blessing in disguise, says Peja

PETALING JAYA: The corruption charges against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin have altered the mood of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's annual general assembly as members are angry, says its deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

He said that the charges against Muhyiddin, however, had proven to be a blessing in disguise for the party.

"The charges against Muhyiddin have altered the Bersatu AGM mood as our members are now very angry.

"As it is, we had expected to have a spirited Bersatu AGM this year as the Perikatan Nasional had won a large number of seats in the last general election.

"However, the AGM itinerary had to be moved around a bit as we wanted to accompany our president Muhyiddin to the courts this morning (March 10)," he said in a media conference on Friday (March 10) on the sidelines of the Bersatu women's wing Srikandi gathering in conjunction with the Bersatu AGM.

"We came together again, despite the accusations against Muhyiddin, but it was a blessing in disguise as the anger against the allegations had brought us all together.

"Tomorrow (March 11), the Youth wing Armada will hold their gathering. The party components of Perikatan Nasional had agreed to come together on Saturday night to hold a people's rally to kick off a roadshow against the tyranny of the government against the Opposition.

"The president's speech, which was supposed to be tomorrow, will now be on Sunday (March 12). We will then have the debates from the delegates," Ahmad Faizal added.

He said that the debate speeches by the Bersatu delegates would not be controlled.

"We will just monitor to keep time. As to the content, we are a free party and the delegates are free to state their views," said Ahmad Faizal.

The Bersatu AGM is currently ongoing for three days, with the president's speech as the climax on March 12.
