HK songstress Maria Cordero has new lease on life after hubby’s death

VETERAN Hong Kong singer and actress Maria Cordero, whose husband Rick Da Silva died in 2021, said she would rather stay at home and do nothing than find new love, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Following a successful concert recently, Internet users from China wondered aloud if Cordero had planned to move on from her husband’s death and find a new partner.

“Definitely not! I have 17 grandchildren, six children, sons- and daughters-in-law. I have many relationships.

“To find a new man, those younger than me, they will want me for my money. Do you think they would want me because I am pretty? Those older than me, do you expect me to look after them?” she said on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok.

Cordero, who rarely speaks publicly about emotional matters, added that she enjoys the freedom of being able to do what she wants.

“I have freedom! I can play cards whenever I want to; fly anywhere I want to; start any business that I like.

“If I don’t want to do anything, I could stay at home and lie flat. Yes, I know what it means! Lying flat! So don’t mess with me,” she said.

Many Internet users praised Cordero for being rational and that she would not easily fall for those wanting to take advantage of her.

Others attributed Cordero’s outlook on life to her having survived domestic abuse from her ex-husband – whom she was with before meeting Da Silva.

Cordero was married to Rick da Silva for 21 years before he passed away from pneumonia in 2021.

In December last year, she announced that she would be holding concerts in January this year to recoup financial losses from a failed investment despite having retired from singing in 2016.

It was earlier reported that she invested HK$50mil (RM27mil) in a Hong Kong-based company that made light bulbs, but the value of her stake had since fallen to only HK$2mil (RM1.13 mil).

> After spending time during Chinese New Year with his girlfriend Joey Chua’s family in Malaysia, it is now Taiwanese actor Darren Wang’s turn to bring her to meet his family in Taiwan, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The two were recently spotted at a concert at the Taipei Arena after being photographed visiting Jonker Street in Melaka and Chua’s hometown of Johor Baru a few weeks ago.It was earlier reported that Wang and Chua announced their relationship in December last year after dating for more than a year.

Wang stunned fans in September 2022 by preparing bak kut teh – a Malaysian delicacy – and serving his colleagues on the Chinese reality TV show Call Me by Fire. Many fans suspected he learnt the recipe from Chua.
