KUANTAN: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has called on parents and teachers to play their roles in eradicating social ills among students that have become increasingly worrisome.

Her Majesty said discipline problems and social media consumption among students should be given attention and monitored, adding that parents must get to know their children’s friends.

She also urged parents to give their children the attention and love that they deserve so that they would not feel abandoned and go their separate ways, in addition to providing a solid religious foundation to instil good character.

"Students need to have good character and identity by practising good values such as respecting and listening to the advice of parents, teachers and experienced people.

"...schools must also play a part...I am very strict with my children, they must go to bed early because enough sleep makes them fresh and helps them to concentrate in class,” she said when speaking at the 18th Appreciation Ceremony of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Azizah in Indera Mahkota here on Sunday (Jan 29).

Also present were Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, state Education director Mohammad Rosli Abdul Rahman and the school headmistress Sharipah Hadibah Habib Noh.

Tunku Azizah also said schools in Pahang should be upgraded for the benefit and comfort of the students.

"We all know that without education the people and the country cannot progress and only through education can we eradicate poverty, so I ask and hope that the (Education) Minister can fulfil the request of the state of Pahang," she added.

At the ceremony, Her Majesty presented excellence awards to the students and toured an exhibition prepared by the school. – Bernama
