JOHOR BARU: Favourable weather greeted the nomination process for the 16th Johor State Election at 56 nomination centres across the state Saturday (June 27).
The atmosphere at several centres was orderly, with Election Commission (EC) officers carrying out final preparations and handling the receipt of nomination papers from 9am to 10am.
Security personnel were stationed at all nomination centres to maintain order and ensure the smooth conduct of the process.
Some centres saw party supporters gathering as early as 7.30am to show support for their respective candidates.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said most districts in Johor are expected to remain dry in the morning, with thunderstorms forecast in several areas in the afternoon.
The Johor state legislative assembly, which has 56 seats, was dissolved on June 1, with the EC fixing July 7 for early voting and July 11 as polling day.
EC statistics show a total of 2,727,926 registered voters, comprising 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and their spouses. - Bernama
