BUTTERWORTH: Parti Wawasan Negara will campaign in johor for specific leaders instead of parties, says its president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (pic).

The Opposition leader said "parties were secondary" and his party would support specific candidates who it felt were capable of fostering unity and progress.

"God willing, Wawasan will take part in the Johor state election campaign. As I have said before, we are a party that wants to see unity in our country.

"If we look at the leaders who are capable of uniting the people, and I believe they can ensure Johor is developed well, then why shouldn't we help them?

"We want to support them so that they can win," he said.

The Larut MP however didn't single out which leaders the party will help in the campaign in the Johor state election.

Hamzah was responding to questions from reporters after bumping into them at a late night event in Seberang Jaya on Friday (June 26).

He said political blocs may be different and the leaders may come from different political alignments, but that is a separate matter.

On Thursday (June 25), Hamzah said the party had decided not to contest the Johor state election but would instead focus on contesting the upcoming Negri Sembilan state election.

The Election Commission has set the nomination day for the Johor state election on June 27, while polling day is on July 11, after the state legislative assembly was dissolved on June 1.
