Floods: Number of victims exceeds 6,000 in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims at 26 relief centres across Sabah increased to 6,394 as of 8pm on Thursday (Jan 26).

The state disaster management committee said that Kota Marudu district still has the highest number of victims at 4,789, Pitas (1,133) and Paitan (472).

However, all three temporary relief centres at the Kudat district that housed more than 700 evacuees had been closed.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department had warned of dangerous-level continuous downpours until Thursday for Beluran, Sandakan and Kudat divisions.

The heavy rain in these areas had receded.
