Cops detain 19 for drink driving during traffic ops in Kuala Lumpur


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 19 individuals were detained for driving while under the influence of alcohol following an operation around the city.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said they were detained under Section 45 of the Road Transport Act 1987 during the operation which was conducted from Wednesday (Jan 18) until Saturday (Jan 21).

"We also detained six individuals aged between 16 and 22 for riding their motorcycles dangerously," he told a press conference on Sunday (Jan 22).

ACP Sarifudin said a total of 20 officers and 80 JSPT personnel conducted the operation at Jalan Bangsar, Jalan Genting Klang and Jalan Ampang.

"We issued 7,998 summonses for various traffic offences.

"We also seized 18 motorcycles during the operation," he said.

Some 809 accidents were also reported in the city during the same period, ACP Sarifudin said.
