Ipoh police launch Ops Selamat 19 ahead of CNY exodus

IPOH: Ops Selamat 19, in conjunction with Chinese New Year, has been launched by the Ipoh police district.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the operation will be conducted for 10 days, from Wednesday (Jan 18) to Jan 27.

“The focus will be on hotspot areas, which are expected to see traffic congestion, with many returning to their hometowns.

“We will be focusing on five main objectives: reduce road accidents, ensure smooth traffic flow, respond immediately to cases, prevent break-ins, and increase patrols to prevent crime,” he said here on Wednesday.

He said sufficient personnel and assets would be deployed during this period.

ACP Yahaya said other operations, including Ops Samseng Jalanan, Ops Motosikal and Ops Perdagangan, will be conducted with the relevant agencies.

He urged road users to follow traffic rules and forward pictures as well as videos of anyone committing traffic or criminal offences to the police.

“Those returning to their hometowns are advised to inform the nearest police stations so that patrols at the residential areas could be carried out,” he added.

He said anyone experiencing an emergency in the Ipoh district can call the 24-hour police operations centre at 05-2542222.

"All road users are advised to plan their journeys to avoid being caught in jams,” he added.
