Soldier killed in accident involving dog and Veterinary Services Department vehicle

MELAKA: A 33-year-old soldier was killed in an accident involving a dog and a Veterinary Services Department's vehicle along Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) highway here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Muhamad Solleh Ramli, who is attached to the Sungai Udang Army Camp here and was involved in the accident at 8pm on Thursday (Jan 5) at Bertam Putra stretch along the highway.

The victim was returning to his home here on his motorcycle after a thanksgiving prayer at his workplace.

ACP Christopher Patit said the victim had lost his balance after his motorcycle collided with a dog that suddenly dashed across the road.

He said the soldier fell causing an oncoming Veterinary Services Department vehicle to crash into him, killing him on the spot.

ACP Christopher Patit said the 24-year-old driver of the government-owned vehicle was asked to have his blood sample taken at the Melaka Hospital as part of an investigation into the accident.

He said the driver of the vehicle wasn't hurt in the accident and is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The dog survived the incident but escaped.
