Over 150,000 nabbed for drug related offences in 2022, says Bukit Aman

PETALING JAYA: Over 150,000 people were caught by the police for narcotics offences, Bukit Aman says.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Jan 4), Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Departments shared that a total of 163,740 people were caught throughout 2022, with public servants making up 687 of those arrested for drug offences last year.

The post also highlighted the arrest of five senior officers of an enforcement agency in Pahang among those who were nabbed.

"As many as 229 syndicates involving 709 suspects have been busted. In Sept 9 last year, the department successfully arrested a leader of one of the largest syndicates in Sabah which had been active in the distribution of ecstasy, and drug-laced drinks at entertainment outlets.

"A total of 15 drug labs have also been uncovered with five suspects arrested," the department said.

Last year, around 18.4 tonnes of drugs and 3,437 litres of liquid drugs were also seized.

"NCID seized 106.5 tonnes of ketum leaves and 52,886 litres of ketum water with an estimated value of RM461mil," it said.

Regarding the seventh series under Ops Tapis Khas last Dec, 20 suspects, including its leader, linked to the Bani Tenang group, were arrested.

The group is known on social media for openly promoting the cultivation and sale of cannabis.
