Cultivate culture of safety, says Lee Lam Thye

KUALA LUMPUR: All Malaysians should cultivate a culture of safety in their lives, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

The Alliance for Safe Community chairman said many tragedies could have been minimised or prevented if Malaysians embrace the safety culture and put it into practice.

"It is the responsibility of all parties, especially the Unity Government, to promote and establish a safety culture in the country,” said Lee.

"The government should really look into this matter in addition to addressing social issues and economic problems," he added when contacted on Sunday (Jan 1).

Lee said that while the government has a major responsibility in instilling the culture of safety in the country, the people should also play their part.

"The people should be educated to always be in a state of preparedness. For example during the monsoon season, they will be able to be in a high state of preparedness," he said.

Lee hoped that every Malaysian makes embracing a culture of safety in their new year's resolution.

"We should adopt an approach in everything we do to make safety a way of life. I think this is the best way to prevent tragedies or mishaps in the future," he added.
