Dewan Rakyat observes moment of silence for Batang Kali landslide victims


KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat observed a moment of silence for the victims of the Dec 16 Batang Kali landslide.

Expressing his condolences to the next of kin of victims, newly-appointed Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul asked MPs on Monday (Dec 19) to say a prayer and observe a moment of silence.

“I would like to express my sympathy to the families of the victims involved,” Johari said, while adding that he hoped that the next-of-kin of the victims would remain strong through this ordeal.

He also thanked all agencies involved in the search and rescue mission.

As of Monday (Dec 19) morning, 24 people have been confirmed killed in the landslide, nine are still missing and 61 were rescued.

Search-and-rescue operations for the nine remaining victims of the landslide at Father’s Organic Farm campsite in Batang Kali resumed at 8am on Monday.
