Istana Negara had initially set a 2pm deadline on Monday (Nov 21) for leaders of political parties and coalitions that won the most parliamentary seats in the 15th General Election to inform the King about a new alliance to form a government and submit the name of their prime minister candidate.
This was done in line with Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution with the King's decision being final.
However, the King decided to extend the deadline till 2pm Tuesday (Nov 22) following a request by Barisan Nasional for more time.

This came after Barisan and Pakatan Harapan leaders were in discussions at Seri Pacific Hotel earlier on Monday (Nov 21) to hammer out an alliance to form the government.
On Saturday (Nov 19), Pakatan Harapan emerged as the biggest coalition in Parliament with 82 seats, including Muda, but was still short of the 112 needed for a simple majority.
The second biggest coalition is Perikatan Nasional with 73 seats while Barisan Nasional has 30, Gabungan Parti Sarawak won 22 and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah managed to get six seats.
Other parties and Independents won seven seats.
