GE15: Bersatu rep backs BN candidate to take Beaufort

Datuk Siti Aminah Aching BN-Umno

KOTA KINABALU: Local politician Datuk Limus Jury has backed Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (BI for the Beaufort seat.

Limus, who is Bersatu's Beaufort division vice-chief, said his plans to help Siti Aminah's campaign was delayed because he had to see to his daughter's wedding.

"My daughter got married on nomination day (Nov 5)," the Kuala Penyu assemblyman said during a Barisan ceramah at the Kilugus polling district centre in Beaufort on Sunday (Nov 13).

Siti Aminah is making her electoral debut in the constituency located in South-west Sabah.

Limus, who is also Sabah Assistant Works Minister, said it was vital to ensure victory for the candidate whose party forms the government.

Bersatu and Umno are working together in the Sabah for GE15, with GRS contesting 13 out of the 25 seats in Sabah and Barisan contesting the remaining 12.

However, relations between the two coalitions have been testy after Perikatan Nasional placed Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee in the Beluran seat, which is also being contested by Barisan.

Limus, who commands substantial support in Kuala Penyu, one of two state constituencies in Beaufort, was formerly with Upko and also a state assistant minister in the Warisan-Pakatan-Upko coalition government between 2018 and 2020.

However, in July 2020, he was part of a group of assemblymen led by former chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman who tried to topple the state government led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie, however, called for a snap state election which Warisan eventually lost to the then loose GRS coalition.
